Muslim Society of PEI to
Members of the Muslim Community
Final Draft Copy of the Revised Constitution and By-Laws of the Muslim Society of PEI and
Compilation of Feedback from the Muslim Community
Following a resolution adopted at the Muslim Society’s General Assembly Meeting in January 2023, the ad hoc committee was mandated, in March 2023, to review and update the Constitution of the Muslim Society of PEI and to complement it with by-laws.
Below is a list of all members who served on the Constitution and By-laws Review Committee (hereafter referred to as the COMMITTEE):
• Zain Esseghaier, Chairperson (March 2023-January 2025).
• Khadija Ghanam (March 2023-January 2025).
• Ahmed Elmoslemany (March 2023-January 2025).
• Suryani Gazari (March 2023- Feb. 2024).
• Monica Fontanesi (March 2023-August 2023).
• Omaro Sefau (March-October 2023)
• Najam Chishti (March 2023-November 2023).
• Kara McPeak (September 2023-January 2025).
• Fola Olukuga (October 2023-January 2025).
• Mohamed Lahloub (October 2023- December 2023 ).
• Sheikh Tanbir (December 2023-January 2025).
The COMMITTEE convened online multiple times from March 2023 to January 2025. Its review process included examining the Muslim Society's Constitution, analyzing similar documents from other Canadian Muslim organizations, and drawing on the committee members' personal experiences. Additionally, the COMMITTEE solicited input from the broader Muslim community.
Alhamdulillah, the COMMITTEE has now completed its work and submitted the final draft of the Constitution and By-laws to the Executive Committee, along with a compilation of all the feedback it received and the actions it undertook (see attached documents).
The next step is for the Executive Committee to convene a Special General Assembly Meeting to vote on the adoption of the new Constitution and By-laws. This meeting will take place at the Dar as-Salam Mosque after Asr prayer on Sunday, February 16, 2025. While all members of the Muslim community are invited to attend, only those who have paid their membership dues prior to the meeting will be eligible to vote. Adoption of the new Constitution and By-laws requires a two-thirds majority vote.
On behalf of the Executive Committee of the Muslim Society, I would like to express my sincere thanks to the members of the Constitution and By-laws Committee for their hard work and dedication over the past several months.
Jazakum Allahu Khairan.
